Q: My fiancé and I are planning a small wedding at home, do I have to wear a tie if we’re having an informal event?
A: Great question. No, there are no rules saying that you have to wear a tie to a wedding. We’ve had numerous grooms suit up sans tie and still look sophisticated and upscale. When thinking about piecing your look together, take a few things into consideration:
- Shirt: Opt for a spread collar dress shirt and leave the top 1-2 buttons undone. If you will be wearing an undershirt, make sure it's a v-neck style so it won't show around your neck.
- Facial hair: Visit a professional and have your beard trimmed or opt for a straight razor shave.
- Accessories: If you aren’t wearing a tie, make sure your other accessories like a pocket square or watch stand out.
Whether you're getting married at the beach or in your backyard, an open collar look can still be sophisticated and you'll look sharp on your big day. Have more style questions? Reach out to us at style@thegroomsmansuit.com!
